East Boston

The history of East Boston is a history of building connections.

Welcome to East Boston

With some of the best waterfront views in the city and a beautiful new green space, it’s hard to tell that East Boston was once a shipbuilding hub. Originally a collection of five separate islands, East Boston is one of the few neighborhoods in Boston that was formed as the result of planned residential and business development. Today, many new development projects continue to expand the available housing options in this thriving market.

The history of East Boston is a history of building connections. When the neighborhood was still comprised of disconnected islands, these connections were literal, as the community sought ways to connect with the rest of Boston. Thanks to the Callahan, Sumner, and Ted Williams Tunnels, the MBTA’s Blue Line, not to mention Logan Airport, East Boston is now one of Boston’s most connected neighborhoods.

The plethora of diverse restaurant options in East Boston also connects the neighborhood to an array of global gastronomy. The neighborhood’s many eateries include authentic cuisine from Italy, Mexico, Australia, Southeast Asia, Peru, and more.

Residents can feel connected to nature at one of East Boston’s many parks and green spaces. Belle Isle Marsh Reservation, located within East Boston, is home to one of the last remaining salt marshes in Boston. As a multi-use public recreation and nature preserve, Belle Isle Marsh provides a home for marshland wildlife and a scenic respite for residents.

The real estate in East Boston is an eclectic combination of old and new properties. One of the oldest residential communities in East Boston is Jeffries Point where turn-of-the-century triple-deckers, Greek Revival row houses, and Victorian townhouses now mingle with newly constructed luxury condominium buildings. This historic waterfront community turned urban neighborhood offers some of the best harbor views and downtown skylines.
